How often should I change my professional photos?
If your online portrait is noticeably different from how you really look, it's time for a new one. If you change your hairstyle, got a new pair of glasses, or gained or lost weight or if your current headshot is more than 1 year old, it is a good time for an updated headshot. We change and age visibly in one year and significantly in two years.
What's best to wear for my professional photoshoot?
Choosing a suit in neutral colors such as navy blue, charcoal gray, or black with a crisp white or striped shirt is the ideal choice. Avoid bold patterns and bright colors that can be too distracting in the photograph - unless that's the look you are aiming for.
Before your headshot session, I will provide you with a detailed guide and during the session, I will help you decide the right attire that brings out your best.
What should I not wear for my professional photo shoot?
• clothes that don't make you look confident and feel comfortable.
• crumpled, shabby clothes
• old shirts and trousers which were washed several times
• shirts with collars that collapsed
• clothes that look trendy but you won't wear to your office
Please check with me if you are in doubt, I am happy to help decide.
Should I smile in my business portrait?
There are no rules, you can smile, or not smile, or just have a hint of a smile. In many cases, a well-executed smile can convey competence, trustworthiness, approachability, confidence, and likeability.
During the headshot session, I will help you decide how much of a smile is right for you keeping your needs, branding objectives in mind. If you choose to smile, I will coach in getting a great smile that brings out the best in you.
With a minimum of three edited photos included in my headshot photography session, you have the scope to try a range of expressions, and you can use whichever one is the most appropriate for your personal brand. For instance, a shot with a more serious expression might suit a webpage detailing the services you offer, while a more cheerful look might fit better on an 'about' page, where you’ll want to show a bit more of your personality. These are just guidelines, not rules.
Your headshot should make you feel good about yourself, that's the thumb rule.
My teeth are not too good, should I smile wide in my professional photo shoot?
If you are not comfortable with your teeth showing in your headshot, you may avoid smiling or you may smile enough without revealing your teeth. A headshot is you, it is about you not about the others. It is a good idea to ignore what others think and do what you feel is right.
I am not photogenic/ I don’t look like a model. In fact, I strongly dislike my ________(nose/chin/any thing else) and am worried it will ruin my pictures. Is there a way around this?
If you have something specific that you’re self conscious about, (as well as anything about your body that you love and want to focus on!) let’s chat about it before your session gets started so I can be aware of it as I shoot.
I guarantee zero judgments.
You don't need to look like a model or need to be a model to get good photos.
We can work around anything about your appearance that you’re uncomfortable with.
I hate having my photo taken. How will you make me look good?
If you trust my process, take my suggestions, cues and work with me, cooperate with me, I can help you look good in photos.
Please note that there are no magic tricks to make people look good unless they are willing and open to suggestions.
For any reason you are unable to do so, the outcome may not be what you are looking for.
Should I wear jewelry for my professional photo shoot?
You may! There are no rules. It is a matter of what is appropriate for your specific needs. For corporate headshots, jewelry should be minimal so as not to cause distraction. If your needs are different, you are the best judge as to what to do.
Should I put on makeup for my professional photo shoot?
Yes but please keep it minimal for corporate headshots. For formal headshots, please avoid eye shades or anything overboard.
Should I wear my glasses for my professional photo shoot?
If you normally wear glasses, yes. Keep the cleaning eyeglass cloth handy however.
Is there anything else I should do to prepare for my professional photo shoot?
Make sure to get a good night’s sleep before your shoot - also minimize alcohol to two drinks in the evening before the shoot - but feel free to fulfill the shortfall in the quota after the shoot. Drink plenty of water to make you feel and look your best! Also make sure you iron or steam the clothing choices you are going to wear into your session and decide on how you will style your hair and/or makeup. Please go through the preparation tips I share with you when you book a session.
Where's your studio? Can I walk-in to your studio when I am free?
My studio is a private working space (not a shop /dukaan / hatti).
I welcome my clients with prior booking only - this will make sure that the experience is respectful and intentional. Once you book your session, I will share the address and you are welcome at the appointed date and time.
When should I go for outdoor headshots rather than those with a backdrop?
Outdoor headshots are a great choice when you want to capture a natural and casual look. The outdoor setting can provide a more relaxed and approachable feel to your portraits, making them ideal for personal branding, lifestyle, or social media profiles.
However please note that we will be at the mercy of the weather during the shoot - which is beyond our control.
We have a garden/lawn in our society/office/backyard. Can we do the outdoor headshots there?
I have a predetermined locations for outdoor headshots because there are considerations like suitability of the backdrop, permissions to consider. However if you do have your own location for this, I will need to assess its suitability before the shoot - which I am happy to do. However please be open and willing to accept my recommendations - otherwise the outcome may not be what you are looking for.
Are the photos going to be of same quality if you shoot in my office or home?
Yes, they will be of same quality. Because I bring the whole studio to your place - backdrop, studio lighting etc. so there'll be no difference in the quality. Click here to refer to additional charges that apply for on-location shoots. (https://10kportraits.com/packages-pricing-corporate-headshot-photography#add-ons)
How is retouching of professional photos (headshots and portraits) done?
I prefer to capture you in your best light, and provide professional retouching keeping you looking natural, the way you are. However I understand that everyone prefers a different level of retouching and it will be tailored to your needs.
Do I really need professional retouching for my professional photos (headshots and portraits) ?
Retouching is optional, but it can definitely enhance your professional photos. My aim is to capture you in your best light with natural-looking retouching that removes blemishes, stray hairs, and other minor imperfections. This results in polished headshots that still maintain your authentic look.
However, I understand that some people prefer their photos untouched. You can choose the level of retouching that feels right for you, or even go without it entirely. Ultimately, the goal is to deliver photos that you feel confident and happy with.
Can I ask for changes to editing?
Yes, you can! You will have the opportunity to review the draft and ask for any changes in one go. After making the changes you asked the photos are considered final.
Multiple editing requests are counter productive to quality of the outcome and hence discouraged.
Can I have any backdrop color I like?
Yes, if you let me know before the shoot or at least before the final delivery of photos, so that I can setup appropriate backdrop as a standby or make necessary edits.
Any change requests after sending you the finalized photos are chargeable.
Can I have one photo in different backdrops?
Yes, you can, if you pay for each variant you need.
Can you make me look thinner or fairer?
No! I don't do photo manipulation to change the shape and structure of the body or body parts and change complexion of people to a different shade. I don't mean to be judgmental if you want this done, I would request you to find some other service provider.
Do you use AI to edit/retouch my photos?
No, I don't.
I want my spouse/colleague/friend to be present during the shoot to help me. Is that okay?
If the shoot is going to happen in your office or home, it is possible that others (your colleagues/family members) will be around. However, please ask them to go about their business and not to direct you with posing or not get involved actively unless you need any specific help. Also with people watching your every move and expression, you are bound to feel self conscious and uneasy (even if he/she is your spouse or your son/daughter) hence not recommended.
While you are encouraged to take 3rd opinion from your colleagues/family members after the shoot is completed and during the photo selection.
What can I expect from a typical professional shoot (for headshot / portraits) session?
Prior to the session, we will plan the shoot. On the day of the shoot, we'll narrow down the outfit options. I understand that not everyone is comfortable having their photos taken. I will guide you through the shoot. You will get to see your headshots at several points during your photo shoot so you can tell me how it is going and if any changes are needed.

I usually shoot multiple headshots and portraits for each person in a single session so that you can select the headshot or portrait that you like, so that you can select the photos you like.
No! You only pay for the photos you select. I will edit the photos you selected and give them to you. The rest of the photos you didn't select are deleted because you didn't like them anyway.

Family Photos, Family Portraits, what's the difference?
Family photos refer to an informal, candid, reportage style of photos taken while you and your family members are interacting, playing or engaged in an activity. These photos capture the dynamic of your relationships. These are captured without a backdrop right in your home environment.
Family portraits are shot with you and your family members looking into the camera, usually posed. These are more formal than the family photos and traditional as well. You can opt for a backdrop for these photos.
Can we have a separate session for Family Portraits?
Yes, we can. A separate session can be planned.
I want family portraits to look different than headshots, without a backdrop. Is it possible?
Absolutely it is possible if we are doing this at your home with ambient backdrop of your living room or drawing room for the family portrait. When I am at your place, I can recce it to scout for suitable locations for family portraits. I am happy work with you to plan and give you memorable family portraits.
If you are visiting the studio, we can explore different digital backdrop options to replace the studio backdrop in post production (during editing).
Where do you shoot family portraits?
Indoors with or without a backdrop or outdoors or both. It is entirely up to you. Let us talk and plan what would be best for your family. It depends on what you would like the photographs to look like.
How long does a photo session take?
Sessions usually take around 60-90 minutes, although I always suggest you allow 2 hours just so that we don’t feel rushed. I’m happy to be flexible and work around your family, so we can stop for snacks and breaks, etc.
How many family members can be in the shoot?
Please refer to the packages given under pricing for the details.
My son/daughter is overactive and doesn't 'behave'. How do we go about the shoot?
I want the whole session to be fun for them, and it really doesn’t matter whether they ‘behave’ or not. There really is no pressure on them, and hopefully they’ll just be enjoying themselves. If they really aren’t happy at any point, then I’m always happy to take a break, or change what we are doing. I’ve photographed so many families over the years, I promise you nothing will faze me, so please don’t worry at all.
What if it rains or the weather is not suitable or conducive for the shoot?
I’ll always get in touch with you a few days before your session to finalize details. This is also a good time to check the forecast. If the weather is not suitable, I’m always happy to rearrange the session. The weather can make a huge difference to the photographs, so I’d usually recommend waiting for a better day. Or you are very welcome to go ahead with raincoats if you are feeling brave!
What do we do if any of us are not well on the day of the shoot?
It’s no problem at all to reschedule the session if any of you are unwell.
What are Art Prints? Why are they so expensive?
Art prints are high quality photo prints - high quality paper, high quality printing as well.
The paper used to make Art prints is Art Paper - it is acid free, made with wood pulp mixed with cotton to make it white and naturally textured - also called cotton rag. This high quality is known to last for more than 450 years.
Paper made 450 years ago for printing Bible is still used today in Germany. Such high quality paper is made in Germany or UK and has to be imported (it is expensive even if you buy it right outside the factory). Printing on such high quality paper needs high quality machines and inks which are also expensive.
Normal photo prints don't last even a decade if you toss them around. They start absorbing moisture and fungus and fade over time - they are not meant to last forever (unlike Art paper) and that's why they are cheap.
What kind of paper is used for printing?
High end art prints are printed on acid free paper also known as cotton rag with out without texture or on canvas of high quality. The material (paper or canvas) is made in Germany by Hahnemühle FineArt GmbH (https://www.hahnemuehle.com/en/index.html)or Felix Schoeller (https://www.felix-schoeller.com/)a world renowned manufacturers of top quality paper and canvas. Sometimes I also use Illford c(https://www.ilfordphoto.com/)anvas and art paper and Somerset (https://www.stcuthbertsmill.com/index.asp)paper both from UK and produce equally great quality art papers.
Art prints are expensive, do you offer less expensive options?
Yes, there are more economical options.
What kind of frames are used for framing the prints?
1 inch PVC frames in tan/brown/black colors are used.
However, you are free to get the prints framed by anyone you know.
What is the turn around time for prints to be delivered?
10 to 15 days without framing
20 to 25 days with framing
Duration varies depending on your location. The printing will be done in Mumbai or Bangalore hence they need to be shipped to Gurgaon first for quality control. Once the prints pass the QC, they will be framed (if ordered) and then shipped again.
There are multiple moving parts, multiple people involved hence the delivery timelines will vary. However you will keep getting updates till you have the prints/framed prints with you.
I want prints to be delivered urgently. Can you arrange that?
Yes, that can be arranged however additional courier charges will apply. Please let me know your requirement and I will give you the additional charges as per your requirements.
